What is counselling?

Counselling is a gentle yet powerful process of self-discovery and growth, which allows you to talk through and explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences in a safe, confidential and nurturing environment.

You are invited to do this at a pace that suits you with Lucy’s gentle and expert guidance helping you along the way to better mental and emotional health.

Your individual needs and preferences are always at the heart of the counselling process.

Our Counsellors

Lucy

I am most passionate about helping clients understand themselves.

This may be a struggle with low confidence or self-esteem, feeling lost and not knowing who you are, or moving through life transitions and milestones (eg becoming a parent, leaving home, career change, retirement, divorce). I also work with a range of mental health conditions including depression and anxiety, as well as bereavement support and long-term and chronic health conditions.

My work is focused on enabling personal growth and helping you to become the best version of you.

I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) and alongside my therapy work have had voluntary roles for babyloss charities including Sands and the Twins Trust.

I work with adults aged over 18, on a one-to-one basis.

My Journey

My journey into counselling started over a decade ago with my own experience of therapy. Feeling unsettled in a corporate career I’d done for almost 20 years I decided I had ‘more to give’.

I began with befriending roles for the Sands and Twins Trust Babyloss charities, before completing my counsellor training. I then worked for the NHS for several years and gained experience with a wide array of people and life challenges.

I now manage my own private practice and also have contracts with a range of local Occupational Health and private health providers.

Jason

Jason is an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor – I believe that awareness and meaningful change grow within a trusting and authentic therapeutic relationship. I offer a warm, compassionate and confidential space where clients feel truly heard, understood, and accepted. Working collaboratively, I value each client’s unique story, experiences, and inner resources, supporting them to reconnect with their strengths, resilience, and sense of self.

My humanistic approach is grounded in the belief that every individual has an inherent capacity for growth and self-actualisation. I encourage self-awareness and mindfulness as compassionate ways of deepening understanding, fostering insight, and moving forward with greater clarity and self-compassion. I work integratively, thoughtfully adapting therapeutic approaches to meet each client’s emotional, developmental, and cultural needs. Central to my work is creating a safe, containing, and nurturing environment where challenges can be explored at a pace that feels right for the individual.

Working with individuals and couples, I am deeply committed to ethical, reflective, and respectful practice. I hold responsibility for risk assessment and safeguarding with care and sensitivity. Throughout the therapeutic process, my focus is on supporting wellbeing, resilience, and a growing sense of empowerment.

Amy

Amy is an Integrative Counsellor, with her main modality being Person-Centred counselling.

I am an integrated counsellor with 3 years of counselling experience within private practice and the NHS. I am dedicated to offering a safe space for you to freely express your thoughts and feelings without judgement and support you in navigating life’s challenges.

My approach is grounded in the person-centred approach, while integrating evidence-based techniques from other counselling methods. This allows me to tailor each session to meet the unique needs of every individual, ensuring that we focus on your goals and challenges at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

I support adults who are experiencing emotional, psychological, and life challenges who want a space to explore what’s going on for them. You may come to counselling feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure and we can work together at your pace to make sense of your experiences.

Examples of what I can help with:

  • Anxiety and overthinking
  • Low mood and depression
  • Stress, burnout, and feeling overwhelmed
  • Low self-esteem
  • Relationship and family difficulties
  • Life transitions
  • Bereavement and Grief
  • Identity and self-exploration
  • Feeling stuck or disconnected
  • Past experiences that continue to impact your present

In our time together I hope for you to feel heard, understood, and supported. Counselling is not about being “fixed” or being coached; it’s about gaining insight, developing resilience, finding your true self and how to move forward.

How can counselling help you?

Counselling allows you to step into a safe and confidential environment, free from judgement, to make sense of and explore how you are feeling.

This process can help you to:

  • Understand yourself better, your wants and needs.
  • Get a fresh perspective on yourself, your situation and experiences.
  • Empower you to initiate change.
  • Improve self-management of your physical and emotional health and well-being.
  • Better manage relationships, both personal and professional.
  • Accept, process and let go of emotions or feelings which are damaging to your emotional and psychological well-being.

Counselling can help with:

  • Anxiety (general, health & social) & overthinking.
  • Depression & low mood.
  • Dealing with long term health conditions – chronic arthritis, fibromyalgia, endometriosis etc.
  • Peri- and post-natal support, infertility.
  • Perimenopause & menopause.
  • Bereavement and loss.
  • Life transitions – retirement, empty nest, divorce etc.
  • Low self-esteem and confidence building.
  • Work-related stress and career development.
  • Relationship difficulties.
  • Sexuality & identity.

Any issue that is causing you stress and anxiety can be discussed.

Your sessions

Before your counselling begins, you will be offered an initial free 20-30 minute telephone consultation where you can outline any concerns you may wish to discuss.

This is also a chance to discover how counselling works and to give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the process and to share how you are feeling.

We understand that for some people taking the first step to begin counselling, just accepting that you need counselling, can be a significantly emotional and daunting decision, Lucy will support you every step of the way.

Once a first appointment has been agreed, sessions are then offered on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on your preference. The sessions are 60-minutes in duration and on a one-to-one basis allowing you to share and work through your issues in a relaxed and confidential environment.

Counselling can be just one or two sessions or for an extended time.

These are ideally face to face but video conferencing is an option if you prefer.
