How can an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm scan help you?

Certain medical issues, genetic conditions and even trauma can cause damage, weaken and either expand or narrow the aorta (main artery in the abdomen) which can potentially be a serious issue if not discovered. How will a DVT scan Help You?

Patients suffering with sudden swelling, redness and pain to the leg (often first noted in the calf) may have a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). This is a serious condition and needs to be treated urgently. Ultrasound plays a key role in identifying this early on so treatment can begin.

These symptoms are very rarely a blood clot but it is vital to rule one out.

There are two sets of veins in the leg, a DVT scan is focussed to the larger, deep system, the superficial system is less relevant in this context. Varicose veins are part of the superficial system and are unrelated to a DVT.

A Testicular/Scrotal Ultrasound scan is a gold standard imaging approach for assessing male reproductive organs including:

How can a Testicle/Scrotal scan help you?

A large amount of men experience unexplained swellings, lumps or masses in the scrotum or testicles and an ultrasound can quickly provide a definitive (and usually non-worrisome) answer to this.

Guidelines recommend annual scans for patients with a particular condition known as microlithiasis (tiny calcifications within the testicles).

A Testicle/Scrotal ultrasound is instrumental in assessing (but not limited to) the following issues:

An ultrasound of the neck is advised if there is a swelling to the front or sides of the neck.

There can be many causes such as an enlarged thyroid gland, thyroid nodules, swollen salivary glands or lymph nodes. An ultrasound will help identify the cause of the swelling.

How will a Carotid scan Help You?

Carotid artery disease is serious as it can block blood flow to the brain and face. A Carotid examination is performed primarily to assess changes in blood flow as a result of plaque formation. Symptoms include: tinnitus, dizziness, loss of or blurred vision and mini-strokes.

How can a Shoulder MSK scan help you?

Ultrasound is excellent at assessing the shoulder and is invaluable at detecting tears and inflammatory issues such as bursitis. Pain in the shoulder, arm and/or neck usually results in a reduced range of movement and is often described as a “toothache” like pain with intermittent sharp stabbing pains. How can a Hip MSK scan help you?

A common cause of pain to the outer aspect of the hip that radiates both down the leg and up into the buttocks is an inflammatory issue called bursitis which can be easily treated with a follow-up steroid injection. Additionally, issues such as a groin strain can cause a lot of pain, particularly with certain movements such as “getting out of the car”.
